Mr. Steve Knight

Assistant Director of Bands


Mr. Steve Knight is the new Assistant Director of Bands/Instructor of Music at Henderson State University.  His teaching responsibilities include co-directing the “Showband of Arkansas” Marching Band, conducting the Symphony Band, directing the Reddie Pep Band, teaching applied low brass and secondary music education methods classes.  Prior to his appointment at Henderson State, Mr. Knight served as a graduate teaching assistant for the band program at Texas Tech University. His duties there included assisting with the Goin’ Band from Raiderland, serving as lead director for the volleyball and women’s basketball bands, and co-conducting the University Band. His public school teaching experience includes four years teaching at high schools in Odessa, TX and Lubbock, TX.


Mr. Knight has also been active as a trombone performer and teacher. In addition to serving as principal trombonist for the University Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble at Texas Tech University, Mr. Knight has also performed with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, the Roswell Symphony, and the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale. He has worked as a private lesson instructor and clinician in low brass for several public schools in Texas.


Mr. Knight holds a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting, both from Texas Tech University where he studied conducting with Dr. Sarah McKoin and trombone with Don Lucas.
